The biodynamics cultivation concept has been taking root in China over recent years. Chinese organic production was promoted by global trade since 1990 and now China has become the second largest organic production model in the world with more than 2 million hectares of arable organic land in total. So the idea that biodynamics is gaining momentum quickly should not be a surprise.


The fact is that China holds the largest portion of arable land in the world (7%) and feeds more that 1.3 billion people, 21% of the world’s population, means that sustainable farming will become a necessary step in order to continue to grow and provide for the growing population. In the wine world, biodynamics could offer a niche product, one that the ever-growing and discerning wine lover would likely appreciate and would be willing to spend more money on.


The holistic approach to biodynamic farming goes hand in hand with traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese culture can easily link the soul to the soil so to speak. Classes and training are being offered on a regular basis now in China by organizations such as LOHAS (Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability) LOHAS is translated into“乐活”in Chinese, which means “happy life”.
